We didn't really get out in the snow during BLIZZARD WEEK 2011, except to measure the tallest peaks. We waited until the sun appeared a little more brightly and the temps came up to the low 30s...
...and met several friends at a local park for a morning of SLEDDING!
We actually missed a lot of folks, since we arrived ...oh, about an hour and half AFTER the activity started, but it was perfect for us, we only needed to be outside for a bit to enjoy the energy of it all. :)
Baby N stayed bundled up in the ergo carrier with me, while we watched the sledding madness ensue. It was amazing--lots of people--all ages having a blast on the tall hills of snow.
J went down the big hill (not the biggest, but the big one--the one that none of the other toddlers were going down) 2 or 3 (4?) times ALL BY HIMSELF in our little green plastic sled. It's all we have, and it worked perfectly for J! He loved it and every time he got to the bottom, begged for Daddy to pull him back up to do it again. I was really impressed, he did so great!
THEN, Daddy decided to go on some small hills and then the big hill with J. I wish I had gotten video of the two of them together--they looked like they had a blast...until the got going so fast toward the bottom that Trevor put his foot out to slow them down...
And you know what happens when you stick your foot out into powdery snow when you're sliding down a hill, right?
Lots of bitterly cold snow flies in your FACE!
After the initial shock, (he was completely covered in snow), poor J let it all out. He cried & cried until we promised hot chocolate...even then there was still a bit of whimpering.
You can hear for yourself what he thought about sledding with Daddy:
