Family Nativity {2013}

For Family Home Evening
we pulled out our best blankets and sheep
{and makeshift shepherd hook}
to have our family live nativity.

Cast:

Narrator: Daddy
Joseph: Daddy
Mary: Noelle
Baby Jesus: Noelle's baby doll
Donkey: Jackson
Dinosaur: Nathan
Wise man: Nathan
Shepherd: Mama

Our supplies were gathered,
the tripod set up,
and the experience
was recorded for posterity.

We talked about Bethlehem and what it must have looked like in those days. We talked about the baby and swaddling clothes. We talked about how wonderful our Christmas has been this year and the many gifts we receive from Christ. We talked about ways we can "give" gifts regularly (service!). Their attention spans lasted just about that long...

Then we played duck-duck-goose.

Duck!

This was our last FHE of 2013. One of my new years goals: I am planning to record the details of each of our family home evenings in 2014. Not sure yet if I'm going to start a notebook or blog it (or both?). It will be a way to record these special evenings together and keep us on track--I'm determined not to miss a week this year.

To give myself a jump start, here's how it went down on Monday night (12.30.13)

Opening songs:
"Head, shoulders, knees, & toes"  (chosen by Mama)
"Popcorn popping" (chosen by Daddy)
"I Love To See The Temple" (chosen by Nathan)

Lesson:
Cooperative lesson--resulting in live nativity and mini-discussion

Activity:
1-live nativity
2-duck, duck goose

Closing song: "Let us gather in a circle"
Family prayer: by Mama

You didn't know there were dinosaurs at the manger scene?? :)

We had such a limited time of interest/attention, I wasn't going to argue the boy for wearing the dinosaur costume. :) Plus, I love that it really puts an age stamp on the photo. Looking forward to having a collection of these!!
