Closing Weekend

This weekend was
closing weekend

The end
of a fabulous set of weeks

highlighted by family fun,
holiday spice,
and Daddy being home every.single.day.

We feel so grateful for
the time
(love is spelled t.i.m.e., right?)
&
filled the days with low key mornings,
spontaneous adventures,
and magical moments.

Truly,
it was a December
to remember.

To finish it off, we made sure to cross a few things off our list during the Last Week.
Clean the house
Find missing socks
Put away laundry
Send thank you cards
Find new pediatrician
Play games
Eat good food
(make homemade bread!)
Read books
Finalize little boy N's name correction (finally!)
Study lessons for Sunday
Car & Van (!!) maintenance
Put away last of the holiday bits
&
CUT HAIR.

We had Thomas the Train streaming from netflix
& lollipops for motivation to keep still.

J has a hard time with the falling pieces of itchy hair on his shoulders, but kept his eye on the prize.
N did impressively well, given his VERY FIRST CUT, and looks older now. My least favorite part of cutting their hair--the older look they acquire as soon as it's over!

They both look sharp, despite the little mistakes Mom made on the ear trim (I can never get it perfect!). Trevor is the haircutting Master, all of his snips & buzz' look great. After theirs were done, he did his own.

Mine will have to wait until I can arrange an appointment & free time (should have scheduled it for 'Closing Weekend' when Dad was still home!)

Little Miss N spent the weekend
being sweet as sugar...

...tired one moment, pensive the next:
 She is doing great, overall.
She eats like a champ and keeps the diapers filled.
She makes adorable sounds and holds her head up often
to see what her older brothers are up to.
She loves to be held and swaddling is like chocolate to her.

She has a difficult time between 11pm-2am, though on random nights it's not a problem at all. She started to spit up fairly often (after every feeding, sometimes more than once or twice) a little over a week ago and also seems to have tummy pains (gas) that cause her to wake up mid-sleep and have a hard time relaxing.

AND

Even though she was a champ with the pacifier on day 4, she now wants nothing to do with it and seems to gag on the thing. We even have FOUR different kinds in our house now...I try them regularly...to no avail, so far.

So...this Mama is becoming a human pacifier...which for some instances doesn't bother me at all, but I wonder if this contributes to her spitting up (too much milk?) & tummy issues (too fast?). I know these are common complaints for newborns so I'm trying to keep it all in balance. Easier said on days when the night before wasn't too crazy.

During all of the late nights/early mornings,
guess who has been right there by my side?
My hero in shining armor, of course!

Trevor has done *so much* over the last month that he's been home--diapers, spitups, fussiness, rocking, bathtimes, bedtimes, cuddling, soothing, calming, cleaning--you name it, he's done it. He is one hands-on Daddy and we are so blessed.

To show my appreciation (though this hardly touches it)
we had a special Thank You Feast on Sunday afternoon.
It was so nice to make a meal for my man
(first real meal I've made in many weeks)
and share thankful thoughts.

Closing weekend ended with a fun skype with Nana,
family games downstairs, scripture reading, family prayers, and getting everyone to bed with stories & smiles.

Now...the journey officially begins
(nothing is official during holidays/vacation, right?)

Trevor is back to work,
and I'm on my own with three (one.two.three!)
little darlings.
Let's get this party started!

Afternoon update: So far, so good. I made it through breakfasts, clean up, play time, nursing time, clean up, lunch, clean up, nursing time, and got everyone down for naps without too much drama. Now the blog is updated and...I just need to get a shower!!

My experience has been when I'm the pacifier they are good for the moment but later they spit up, fussy with gas pains and such. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do to survive. I would try to swaddle when you can and see if that is soothing. My third wouldn't take a pacifier or a thumb. He was the most difficult to soothe and still is.
