Last Snaps of August '11

Road Trippin'

For our anniversary weekend, we headed over to our old Wisconsin stompin' grounds...
Wausau!

We stayed with favorite friends, enjoyed down time, listened to happy children play, reminisced as we drove around familiar streets, ate deep fried cheese curds (oh yes we did!), attended a beautiful outdoor wedding reception (congrats, Lacy!), attended our Church there (oh so many dear friends!), didn't take very many photos, and had a very fun (very needed!) weekend AWAY. It was just what we needed after such a busy month of Trevor's work travels. We filled up the 3 hour driving trip with all of the things we had been needing to coordinate, discuss, and share. And when we arrived that first night, we put the kids to bed and went
out on the town:

After we put the kids to bed, we went out for our 7th anniversary date. Nothing fancy--Erbert & Gerbert's on the square, outdoor seating under the stars, cuddly conversation, and a romantic walk--just perfect.

In Sink Baby Band

This next photo collage shows immediately after N devoured his birthday cupcake(s). Typically he enjoys a nice soak in the tub, but we didn't want to risk all of the crumbs that would fall from kitchen to bathroom...so we moved some dishes over and plopped him down.
He thought it was awesome.

Ferret Fluff
If you've followed our family blog(s) for any length of time, you know about our ferret family member, Wahwee. Wahwee joined our crew when J was about 16 months old, and has now become even more of a constant companion for him. He is a favorite cuddle friend, sleeping buddy, movie side kick, eating pal, and overall adventure companion. He doesn't go on very many outdoor adventures with us (in the interest of keeping him in one piece and from wandering off, of course), but he does wait patiently in the car for us when we're out and about.

Wahwee has recently been potty trained and climbed so high that he got stuck on our fence.

Culinary Creations/Cravings

A few weeks ago I was craving sweet potato fries. Coincidentally, I had a few sweet potatoes from the farmer's market huddling in the back of my fridge. Even though I had 100 other things to do, I decided to find a good recipe and feed my fry craving. I'm so glad I did.

I used THIS recipe. I used Paula Dean's special cinnamon blend---talk about heavenly. Peeled, cut, measured, bagged, mixed, spread, baked...and then I ate almost all of these (with the help of my boys) before Trevor got home that night.

Fabulous Freckles

I have freckles. Lots of them. I don't have very many noticeable ones on my face--mostly my arms, shoulders, legs, etc. Trevor has plenty as well (same kind of placement as mine)--we are fair-skinned folks with polka dots. When we had a redheaded baby we knew that meant he would have cute little freckles pop up eventually. And we've been excited to see them!

So we've waited...

...and last summer a few popped up, but this summer has brought out several more clusters...
just too cute. These close up shots of J eating corn at the Farmer's Market
show them off a bit:
Mmmm corn. Yayyyy freckles! Aug 2011

I'm So Glad When Daddy Comes Home

Trevor's new job has brought new elements to our family. Namely--figuring out how to do what we do...with Dad out of town during the week. For the month of August Trevor was gone every single week. It was an interesting challenge to cram all of our To Do's into the weekend (mow the lawn, grocery shopping, meals around the table, cleaning, laundry, Sunday prep, Church responsibilities, family time, leftover organizing from the move, clean the cars, pay bills, etc). He still has some busy weeks ahead but eventually we *hope* to have his travel schedule a bit more evened out.

Trevor has an ENORMOUS geographical area that he alone covers for his consulting position. He had 6 weeks of training with other consultants who are placed around the country and is now ready to head out on his own. I am proud of the hard work he has devoted to his company and the new skills he is learning. It is not always easy for me to balance it all without him here (anyone who knows us knows--Trevor does SO MUCH FOR ME! I've never cleaned a tub since we've been married!), and trying to find a 'new normal' for myself, our family, our marriage, our home, etc.
It is work in progress.  However, I feel very grateful that he has a job that provides for our family and allows me to be able to be home with our babies. I know it's not easy for him either, and I appreciate his sacrifice for us.

The best thing is the energy in our home when Daddy gets home from a trip! He shares fun stories of flying in big airplanes with J, and tells me about all the delicious food he got to eat! :) N gets lots of extra cuddles and the boys wrangle on the floor in tickle-fests. We love it when Daddy is home!

Yum! I love sweet potato fries. J's freckles are cute, I just noticed George getting freckles this summer too.

They DO look sneaky! how fun to have that deck though, like a little breakfast room..at least till it becomes a snowpile, then you can build a snowman right on the deck! YAY!

I didn't see the freckles , btw.

My friend who has a 3rd ( although her 1st headed to Kgarten) said it is just hard to find the new routine...which I agree. I have always been challenged by routines AT ALL! You will do fine!
