ULTRA
We're still full of excitement from our last ultrasound visit (I know, I know old news!). I have been feeling Mr. Peanut move around more consistently & have had a few nights of heartburn to make me doubly aware of his growing presence. I guess we should take a belly pic one of these days...it's growing!
We have begun reading a "Big Brother" book every night & you can find J saying at random times of the day "Shhh...baby..." with his little finger up to his nose.
J is allergic to eggs. At the time he was tested by the allergist, we were advised to keep him away from peanut butter & fish as well (since he had minimal if any exposure up until that point & they are both highly allergenic foods). We have heeded that advice since then (almost a year ago), but decided we should just TRY some peanut butter out. We know what his reactions look like... so the plan was to try, watch, and HOPE.
When I opened the brand new jar of PB, this is what greeted me:
I thought this was SURELY a good sign!
After a small debate about how much we could sell the thing on Ebay, we loaded up a piece of bread and watched...
...
...
J LOVED IT...
...
...
but within minutes it was obvious that IT didn't love HIM.
A small rash formed around his mouth & we called it quits. Water to rinse it out of his mouth & he was fine. We were really disappointed, though--both Trevor & I love peanut butter! Hopefully he'll grow out of all of it in the next several years...until then, this jar of smiley PB is all ours!
SPIDER
The other night we were re-arranging our apartment (I just couldn't stand it as it was for another day! Now we have a new living room & bedroom arrangement...*sigh*...my next itch is to organize/de-clutter all of the closets & drawers...). J kept saying something and had his hands together on the top of his head.
I didn't pay much attention at first, but he was insistent and finally he had my attention. I tried to figure out what was he telling me. Did his head hurt? No. Did he need to brush his hair? No. Did he want to dance around like a ballerina? No.
My mind raced to figure out what that hand gesture meant to him. Then it hit me...ITSY BITSY SPIDER. He wanted to sing the song! So I started the motions but he wasn't looking at me, he was looking at the ground...and then I saw it...
A SPIDER.
The little black thing was carefully crossing our carpet. J was absolutely & totally enthralled. It was fascinating to watch HIM, watching IT. Finally Trevor put it in a little jar for J to get a closer (and more hands-on) look at the little guy before we let him go ("back to his Mama", of course) outside.
LIP
J experienced his first SWOLLEN lip. He bumped into someone and fell during a few chaotic moments before roadshow practice last week. He had a rough night, mostly I think the blood gushing from his mouth scared him & the strange sensation of a huge lip kept the pain on his mind. He didn't let us keep ice on it for any amount of time, so it got pretty big, pretty fast. The photo doesn't really capture it:
But there it is. His big fat lip.
It's still swollen (2 days later) but not that noticeable to anyone other than his parents. Speaking of his mouth...(which he calls "mouf")...he's getting another tooth! The three on the bottom are finally being evened out by a fourth! WOO HOO!

your story telling skills are so good that even your everyday events are entertaining to read. I'll give you my life story one day for your interpretation. Maybe you can make it exciting too.
Poor spider and Baby J. : (
ps- I hope you are able to give Big Brother J a happy childhood despite his PB allergy. What is childhood with out it? Tragic...good luck.
oh my goodness, that lip! ouch! i can only imagine how NOT fun it must be to be allergic to pb. poor guy.. hope he outgrows it soon enough. i love that he's so familiar w/ the itsy bitsy spider that he knew one when he saw one! how fun to catch it for fun observation!
Linds--you're too kind. I have GOT to get on the ball & get these blogs posts into a book or something, before the baby comes!! ARG. So many TO DO's...
Bekah: Eggs are hard b/c they are in so many yummy things, and they're such and easy & quick protein. I have to be more creative with snacks/meals for him ...but! we're hoping it will be a short-term allergy...
AND we were really shocked that he even KNEW what a spider LOOKED like. Seriously, I don't know how he knew that.
I am proud of you for letting him enjoy the spider, instead of killing it. You get points for that. Several. AND MORE FOR putting it in a jar. AND MORE FOR letting it run free!
Poor lip. That must have hurt! His tooth jam a whole in the inside?
Finally. GREAT WHO's! And Cat in the HAT!
I love the peanut butter! How random. :) Though I hate J is allergic...poor little guy! (cause I also LOVE pb!) And that big fat lip looks like it hurt as well...his little body must do a good job of healing cause I sure didn't see it yesterday!
You are a better mommy than me, it would have been smushed under my shoe in 2 seconds!
Abigail is allergic to pb too. She is wary about everything that she eats, because she does not want to get a shot with the epi-pen! I hate that J is allergic too! : (
Ohhh so sad. Poor J! He looks rather terrified in this shot. But still cute. ;)
