J: 40 months

Jackson Scott Harper. October 2011

Our J is growing tall, tall, tall!

J loves to meet and greet new people...most of the time.
Sometimes he is shy, but usually he is ready to chat it up.

He likes to tell people:
"My name is Jackson. I am free (three). My baby is Natham (Nathan), he is one (holds up finger). In December, I'm getting a baby sister."

J loves to play outside...the leaves this fall have been especially fun! 10/2011

J is learning so much, so fast. Sometimes I feel like I can't keep up! We are working a lot these days on the SOUNDS that letters make, which is lots of fun. He has been able to *mostly* recognize the letters in the alphabet for about a year now, but now we are delving deeper. He really enjoys practicing writing the letters in his name (using dotted line letters) and has written his name on HIS OWN a couple of times now (though the J is upside down & other letters are backwards). He really thrives on the praise he gets for these kinds of activities.

Today we learned about "Humpty Dumpty" and on our walk we learned about the sun and shadows. I feel like every where we go there is something to teach him, which is so fulfilling as a Mom. He listens and remembers so much, so I have to be careful what I say sometimes!

J checked out 11 books from the library this month--the first time that we actually brought any books home from the library (instead of just reading a few while we are there). So far, we haven't lost or destroyed any...and they are a special treat to get out of the 'library bag' to read our borrowed books.

J has such a fun personality. 10/2011

J enjoys doing just about anything I suggest--which is one of the reasons this age is so fun!!

"You want to go to the store with me?"
J: "Yay!!"

"You want to go drop something off with me?"
J: "YAY!"

"You want to go drive around doing nothing with me?"
J: "YES I DO!"

When Dad is home, we try to do something just the two of us during little brother's daytime nap. Otherwise, the three of us are enjoying adventures at home, at the park, at the zoo, at the museum, at the library, with friends, and running errands.

He has a little manipulative side that he tries to use to his advantage every once and awhile. The other day he asked for something in the car. I said "no" and he replied, "Daddy always lets me have one!"

J gets lots of attention for his fantastic red hair & sharp blue eyes.
 J is a fantastic helper!

He helps me clean the house, dust, vacuum, keep N entertained, and lately--just doing random things to help make the day easier. He is kind and gentle-hearted. He wants to make everyone around him happy, and truly shines a special light wherever we go!

Of course, he still has time outs and the occasional classic melt down, but they seem to be less frequent and more manageable than they were in the summer (in the middle of the move!), which makes EVERYONE happy!

J's smile is awesome. 10/2011

We are so blessed to have J as our oldest child, we love learning and growing right along with him!
