Or Rather.
A TINKLING.
So. I have never been the Mom that lets her kids run around/crawl around/hang out diaper-less. I have just never done it.
Today after J's mid-morning bath I was busy working on organizing my closet so I kind of let him do his own thing for awhile. For the past month or so he's been consistent about telling us when he needs to pee in the potty DURING HIS BATHS & has been rewarded for doing so.
I've been content leaving it at that...potty training terrifies me (why? I don't know. The messes in the process? The battle? The transition stage?).
So after awhile he ran into the bathroom to go potty. Then he got back to his "projects" and before long he did it again. I thought "oh.my! He is potty training!!"
So I broke out a new bag of M&M treats (rewards for going in the potty), brought up a bottle of water, and found a show on netflix for him to watch (right by the master bathroom)--it's Veggie Tales. He's entertained, and he has stopped it three times to go potty since we started the thing.
WHAT?
So it's for real. I can't go back now. We are potty training.
help!
*He went 3 more times since I started typing this post. Maybe he needs to learn how to empty it all out at once? What was your potty training experience like?
Update: It's been about 20 times now, I feel like I have another part time job. And he's got 'big boy undies' on. With trucks on them. I can't believe this is happening.

The first few days of potty training really are full-time. All three of my kids would go every 10-20 minutes all day long. It's great for reinforcement because you get plenty of opportunities. But don't worry, it'll wane down. :)
I was pretty scared about potty training my first time too! It'll be a lot of work for a little while with accidents here and there but one day he'll just "get it" and then life will all of a sudden feel SO much easier!
I think at first they're really learning how to "listen" to their body and get used to that sensation of having to pee.
Honestly, I think part of the transition from diapers to potty has to come from US. I mean, by the time you start potty training, you've been changing diapers for 2.5 years. That's ALOT of diapers! And after a while, you can't really remember life before there were hundreds of diapers to change. You just start feeling as if you're going to be changing diapers for the rest of your life. That's just how I felt, anyway! So when I no longer had to change Joanna's diaper anymore, it took me aback at first.
I was like, "oh my gosh! I DON'T have to do this for you anymore. YOU can do it by yourself." And that takes some letting go on our part.
So happy potty training days ahead!! Cheers to not having to clean up too many "spills"! ;-)
Potty training for our first was a must with baby #2 on the way. I refused to have two in diapers. For the second one, we wanted to get him enrolled in a full time preschool program when he was three, so we had to be successful at potty training. With our third, we have not accomplished it yet. We try, he shows interest and then we both slack off. I guess because I don't have a "deadline" this time around, I am tending to slack. You would think I would like to stop purchasing pull ups as they are expensive but I am more slack in general with this one because he is my last. I suppose it will all just fall into place one day.....
But yay for J!
