Bloom Where You're Planted

That was the theme for tonight's gathering of women.

We ate sandwiches (jimmy johns--my favorite!), salads of all shapes & sizes, and enjoyed delicious & beautifully crafted cakes!

We were celebrating the 'birthday' of the Relief Society,
the organization of women 18 & older at our Church--which began March 1842 in Nauvoo, Illinois.

For me, the Relief Society is all about sisterhood, friendship, service, love, and growing...blooming anew as I progress down my own path as a daughter of God.

And the "bloom where you're planted" phrase resonates with me.
I have lived in 13 cities in my life (so far!) and the concept of "blooming" where you are "planted" is vital to finding joy in life at every new place/stage. Even when you are in the same place all your life, don't you have to continually focus on "blooming"?

The work of creating joy, living purposefully, and finding balance...it is not always easy but the effort always pays off with bright colored blooms.

I had a wonderful time creating clusters of flowers for this cake project!

My boy J helped me in the kitchen.
He wore an apron, stood on his tool, and pounded out his very own marshmallow fondant stash. He organized my frosting tips, and learned what happens when you dip your fingers into the little jars of food coloring!

As soon as it was all finished, I carefully packaged the thing & placed it securely in my trunk. That was the only place I could guarantee that it wouldn't be artistically altered by toddler fingers. Thankfully, it made it to the dinner in perfect condition...

I'm so grateful for the friends, moments, & experiences I have added to my "bouquet" since we've moved here. I'm still trying to figure out my balance as I work to plant, bloom, serve, & love.

Beautiful job on the cake. But what impresses me even more is your ability to truely bloom wherever you are. You are so good at putting yourself out there, making friends and serving with joy and love. This is why so many people love you. Thank you for planting yourself in my heart so many years ago. :)

Do you eat it? I don't know how you let anyone near your creations with a knife! It's beautiful!

Okay so I have looked at that cake so many times and I just can't get over it. I couldn't arrange REAL flowers like that let alone fake flowers which I MADE! They are fondant flowers right? The other thing that always makes the cake is your gorgeous handwriting!

This a beautiful cake Shara!

Thank you all for the sweet compliments!! It was an awesome project--I learned a lot from it and enjoyed the creative energy it provided.

YES, Joy they are fondant flowers--the same marshmallow fondant recipe! I learned how to knead the fondant without gloves & without staining my hands this time...woo hoo! :)

It was all eaten up by the time the activity was over (there were about 6 other cakes there too, mind you, that were also eaten up!).

It was fun ...and now I need a cake break :)
