Let's talk about hair cuts, shall we?
Here's the deal. Most of my growing up life I had medium-long hair. There was once in, I think, first grade where I begged my mother to cut my hair super short (just like a girl I knew who had it super short). She did (or she had someone do it) and I hated it. HATED IT. I realized I wanted to be blonde & petite like that girl & I thought a hair cut would do it. Just a warning folks--getting the hair cut does NOT turn you into the model. Lesson learned at an early age.
Most of my high school years I had my hair pretty long, the longest I remember it being was freshman year of college. Then I started cutting it more often (and adding red/darker colors to it), but always having medium lengths in between the longer stages and the shorter stages.
After we were married, I got a wild hair (ha!) and decided to chop my hair short. I really don't remember what my motivation was but within a few months of being married, I no longer had the longer hair my sweetheart had grown accustomed to...but he loved it, and I did too!
By the time this photo was taken, I also had highlights (a first for me!) & had picked up the nickname "spike":
Trevor honestly could not believe how long it was when he was taking these photos this morning. I guess as it is growing you just get used to it? Anyone else surprised at how long it looks? I think I was a bit surprised at the length myself. LONG.
I enjoyed the short, sassy cut and had fun with it. Before long I was ready to have long hair again and so began the journey of growing out my hair (late 2005). Of course, I would enjoy several lengths here & there but my goal was to eventually have long hair again.
At the beginning of 2009, one of my New Year's resolutions was to officially be growing my hair out for Locks of Love & was hoping to cut it by the end of that year. Well, I don't know if it was long enough or not but I decided to put it off another year...
And here we are, standing at the beginning of 2011.
So guess what?
Can you believe it?
Another surprise to Trevor was how much of a red hue my hair has. Hello! I've been telling people all along, J's red hair comes from both sides!! *grin*
I have truly loved having long hair, doing fun up-'dos, and trying out messy curls & the like. I have gone back and forth about WHEN I would actually get it all chopped off, but decided this week that it was time.
So this afternoon, I went to my friend's in-home salon
& requested the Locks of Love special.
...a few quick snips...
AND HERE IT IS
11 inches shorter
Ta-Daaaa!
I am loving it! It feels healthier & thicker than it has in a VERY long time. One of Trevor's first words when I walked in the door tonight was "FANTASTIC!" and J enjoyed running his toddler fingers through my short bob. I can't wait to send off my ponytail of long, straight non-highlighted hair!

ThankYouNotes:
Girlie fun thanks to Kalie D for the most entertaining & energizing hair appointment EVER!
Vintage-cool thanks to my mother for letting me borrow (have?) the two flower pins showcased on my headband (the smaller one was my great-grandmother's & the larger one was my great-great grandmother's)

I like it! you have pulled off the short look, medium, and long! It's really cute ( YOU ARE!) Dad and I both got our hair cut too, this week.
Love it! I'm so proud of you! I've wanted to do that for so long...but short-hair seems to be wired into me and I can't get it longer than just-past-my-shoulder.
Yay for finally accomplishing your goal! You look lovely with long locks or short. Love the photos, even with poor lighting you look great.
looks so great shara! i've been growing mine out for an eternity...and i can't wait until i can cut it!
I love it. And the highlights are awesome. I have done the short hair thing for a while and decided last summer to grow it out. I am hoping by this summer, it will be at the length I am happy with. we'll see.....
You're such a babe, Shara! I love it. :)
Adorable! You are beautiful before and after the haircut!
I truly love it. I wouldnt say it if I didnt mean it. And those vintage pins are awesome.
As I was reading this I kept thinking this is my hair story except I was so traumatized by my 10 year old boy cut I still have never been able to cut it short again. It is really really long right now but I need to get it cut so that it doesn't take four ponytails just to keep it up. I do love your new do.
