Great Grandparents: October 2010 Visit

Granny Rose rocking Baby N in the same rocker that she used to rock Baby Trevor

Trevor is blessed to have both sets of grandparents living in the same county, we can visit both sets when we are in town visiting. This means, our boys get to spend time with their great-grandparents!

At Granny Rose & Papa Edd's house:
(Trevor's paternal grandparents)
Granny Rose is still working--she is a cook in the kitchen at a rest home (where she is older than many of the residents!). She is feisty, funny, and has a magical wand when it comes to cooking good, down home southern food. She made a fried chicken and buscuit breakfast for us while we were there (and sent homemade peanut butter fudge with us when we left!).

Papa Edd is a retired iron worker. He loves to work in his garden, on his yard, and do anything outside. He has had to slow down a lot in the last few years due to his weakened breathing capacity, which has been a frustrating challenge for him. He doesn't get to spend much time outside anymore to do all of those things, but he can still keep a toddler captivated with games and cat toys! On top of that, his dry humor always cracks us up.
And at Grannymother & Granddad's house:
(Trevor's maternal grandparents)
Granddad has a huge farm with beautiful rolling hills and big trees. He has grown big, fruitful gardens and managed cows and other livestock on his farm over the years. He served in WWII and has an amazing memory--always sharing nuggets from his past with us when we come to visit. He still has his garden but doesn't have cows anymore, since he has to take things a little slower these days. He offered us turnips and green tomatoes from his garden while we were there.

Grannymother has always worked hard with Granddad on the farm. I remember seeing her raking leaves and doing other outside chores when we were first married and lived nearby. She can't do as much as she used to, but she and Granddad still stay up late watching their shows and enjoy visits from their girls (who live on either side of them) and grandkids. She let us look through a pile of her old photos while we were in town and told us some of her childhood stories.

We are thankful for the time that we have to spend with the great grandparents--I feel like we have so much to learn from their lives and stories. They are good examples of hard work, love, dedication and lifelong service for their children and grandchildren. I hope we have many more years to learn from them and for our children to get to know them.

Isn't that the greatest?! I don't have any of my grandparents alive, so I love spending time with Miles's grandparents. So awesome that your children get to meet their great grandparents, isn't it?
