Move Week 2010 is in in full swing, and we are surviving!
We don't have internet at our place right now so I'm checking up on things at the very adorable local library. Trevor has been coming here every day to catch up on work emails and assignments--we should be online at our place at the beginning of next week. You may expect more thorough (ie: photos) updates at that time.
A few things we've learned this week:
- Have a plan, but be ready to throw it out the window (we had everything set up to leave on Wednesday but had to leave a day early since the driver of the moving van was ready to offer next-day delivery)
- When your wife says "Should we put some flashlights in our DO NOT PACK stack" (the stack of your stuff that you want to take in your car & that you do not want the packers to touch so you can have it readily available at all times)--you will be sorry if you say "nah"--first night at our new place & there was a wild storm--lights out for 6 hours!
- Never underestimate the power of amazing friends (thank you, thank you, thank you--you know who you are)
- Peanut butter & jelly sandwiches CAN sustain you for breakfast, lunch, and dinner
- If you plan to move 5 hours south, plan for an increase in warm temps & humidity (yes, Wisconsin made us wimpy!)
- There is nothing--I repeat, NOTHING as rejuvenating as a hot shower
- 2 year olds can turn ANYTHING into a toy. Screw driver? Awesome. Packing paper? Even better. Cleaning supplies? Bring it on!
- Telling yourself "everything doesn't have to be perfect" isn't enough. You have to really believe it, otherwise you will be disappointed.
- Moving-driving-unpacking-organizing while 7 months pregnant is bound to bring extra mood swings, night sweats, and grossly swollen ankles
There have been a few crazy things (no electricity, a water leak, unexpected cleaning), and a few puzzling things (how do you organize your kitchen with 1/2 of the cabinets & counter space...and where is the best place for a home office?), but the BEST thing of all is that we are doing this together and it WILL be awesome.
Thanks for your emails, text messages, phone calls, and facebook comments--we appreciate all of the support during this crazy week! Our cell phone service doesn't really work well here so sorry if we never got your message or dropped your call--will be working on that soon.
Next week we'll be making new friends, our washer & dryer arrives, we get internet & phone set up, a few items of furniture, Trevor works in the office for the first time, and I have my first prenatal appointment with my midwives group!
Stay tuned...

Sending good thoughts and hugs your way. Can't wait to hear (see?) more of about your new surroundings.
So sorry it's been more of a rough transition than you hoped for. We miss you!! Hang in there, it will be so nice when everything is unpacked and in it's place. Give J a hug from me and the girls.
That does sound a little crazy! I wish I could do something to help. Or even just babysit J. Good luck this week. Moving is one of the worst parts of life.
Oh, Shara, I'm so with you on moving while pregnant! Elijah was born exactly one week after we moved to Spanish Fork, and Enoch was born 6 weeks after we moved to Maryland. Moving while pregnant is TOUGH!
Hang in there while you are in limbo. That can be frustrating.
We are excited to hear about the ward, your midwives and all your other new adventures!
Joy
all SO true, SO SO true!
I love the way you live and learn.
Peanut Butter sandwiches really are a miracle, aren't they?
A summer move and a summer baby..sheesh...those ankles!
It will get better soon! The first week moving and unpacking is always so hard. (And I can only imagine being very pregnant on top of that certainly doesn't help.) Here's to a GREAT week this week! We miss you!
You are such a trooper!! The 7 months prego and PB&J statement got me really feeling for you guys - but what a trip! I can't tell you guys how excited I am for you (and kind of jealous!). I'm getting kind of antsy after staying in this place for 1 1/2 years. Who would have thought?!
